Quest to Explore
I choose Rocket propulsion as the greatest patent.
Robert Goddard born 1882-1945 provided the method and means to enable Man to escape our physical boundaries of Earths gravity. Goddard innovation in Rocket propulsion technology overcame restrictions for Man to explore beyond our Earths grasp. Exploring beyond our Earths domain into space was a dream of fantasy during Goddard’s efforts in prototype Rocket design technology to turn his vision into a reality and not fiction. Goddard’s provided the spark and ingenuity to develop a propulsion system to launch its self beyond our atmosphere and into space. In 1935 Goddard developed his own patented Rocket designs using liquid-fuel propellant. His Rockets achieved speeds faster than the speed of sound and altitudes in excess of 1.7 miles.
His lead and quest enabled Man to conquer Space exploration and embrace Rocket design developments that gave the impetus for Space programmes that put Man on the Moon in 1969. The evolution of Rocket technology paved the way for unmanned space craft to navigate and voyage deeper into space through our Solar system and beyond. Engineers have perfected and are still striving to better the chemical propulsion systems so that Man can reach further into the unknown. Rockets systems may also provide future means to protect our Planet and Mankind against Asteroid annihilation. Without Goddard’s contribution I would not have the chance and incredible opportunity to win this prize of a life time. A Trip into Space.
