hypodermic needle

The hypodermic needle has enabled many people to live who would otherwise have died from common diseases such as infectious disorders , diabetes and cardiac diseases to mention just three. It has also allowed for the control of symptoms and the alleviation of distrss caused by numerous illnesses. Not all drugs are effective if given by mouth and without the humble hypodermic many powerful medicines would instead be useless. This invention has also played its part in the prevention of many diseases,for example when it is used in vaccination programmes.

The basic design of this low tech but extremely useful peice of equipment has also influenced the development of related peices of medical kit such as are employed to give intravenous fluid.

In short the hypodermic needle,althouigh small and inexpensive has made a significant contribution to human wellbeing.
