The Paper Clip

The paper clip brings together simplicity of design, practicality and endurance. The first paper clip patent was in 1867 and the familiar Gem design, still in use today, also predates the 20th century. In a time where civilisation is just waking up to issues such as recycling, the paper clip is a shining example of reuse, capable of being used thousands of times. Nothing represents the office workspace better than an image of the paper clip; it has even appeared in animated form in a popular word processing program.
