The Heat Engine
Is a marvelous device that converts heat into useful mechanical work. The Internal combustion Engine[IC] was the invention that changed the whole industrial era.
The first flight of the Wright brothers, used a 30.6hp, four cylinder engine.
Reaction motors, using microprocessor based control systems, have made passenger aircraft, also military applications, to be more reliable and safe.
In automobiles, speed, reliability, stability, control, economy being the criteria, technologies like, turbocharging, electronic fuel injection, hybrid, Common Rail Injection, Multi-Point Injections, lessening the emissions by standardising have achieved laurels.
Use of brushless 3-phase AC traction motors for transmission in locomotives, which have replaced DC Motors working on brushes and commutators, hydraulic transmissions that were of very low efficiencies and high maintenance.
Thus, Internal Combustion Engines have found themselves to be of the top priority, and of extensive application in almost all parts of daily life.
